Banyan is proud to announce that our Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Moraima Trujillo, was recently awarded Florida Behavioral Health Association’s “Behavioral Health Pandemic Hero” award. The “Behavioral Health Pandemic Hero” award is part of FBHA’s annual Awards of Excellence for those in healthcare going above and beyond, before and during the pandemic.
Dr. Trujillo was honored as South Florida’s sole winner of this prestigious distinction, a special 2020 category that FBHA created to honor those individuals who have worked tirelessly to make sure mental health and substance use treatment and prevention services were available to those in need during the pandemic.
Over the last several months, Dr. Trujillo has provided much-needed guidance during the peak of the COVID19 pandemic. Banyan is forever indebted to our healthcare hero Dr. T, for the tireless work and sacrifices made over the past few months. Our Banyan family has been humbled and inspired by her courage and resilience, and it is our honor to support her heroic efforts through FBHA’s recognition.
Dr. T’s team describes her as “a beacon during the darkest of times. She is the light that her team needs to continue to push through long hours, while treating sensitive patients, many in extreme mental health crisis as she also balanced the health and safety needs of our Banyan employees”. – Orestes Garcia, Practice Manager

Since its inception in 1970, Banyan Community Health, then known as Spectrum Programs, has been innovating and transforming healthcare in South Florida. A merger with Miami Behavioral Health Center in 1997 established the very first collaboration of a substance abuse rehabilitation center with a mental health facility in the state of Florida. On a mission to treat the whole person in order to deliver the best possible health outcomes, primary care was added. Today, Banyan Community Health is one of Florida’s leading community health systems and is comprised of 13 locations that include a crisis stabilization and detox unit, residential
treatment centers, outpatient behavioral health facilities, a pharmacy, three award winning, federally qualified community health centers (FQHC’s) and a mobile healthcare unit.
