The History and Mission of Concept Health

Concept Health was established in 1970 as the first licensed provider of substance abuse treatment services for men, women, adolescents and families in Miami-Dade County. Since then, they have helped more than 75,000 people access the treatment they need to improve their lives. Concept Health has regularly exceeded industry standards and is widely recognized as one of the most successful providers of substance abuse treatment in South Florida. Patients of Concept Health have gone on to pursue educational and employment opportunities that allow them to lead self-sufficient lives and give back to their communities.

Concept Health Programs and Services

The experienced providers at Concept Health take a comprehensive and culturally appropriate approach to behavioral health and substance abuse treatment. Programming at Concept Health includes education, prevention, intervention, risk reduction, case management, and relapse prevention.

HIV Care Program

Concept Health offers confidential HIV and STD testing, as well as services for those affected by HIV or AIDS. The HIV Care program helps individuals who are HIV+ access the services that they need to live healthy lives and manage the progression of HIV. Services include counseling, education, referrals, and substance abuse treatment if needed. Because we understand that stability is critical to successful management of any chronic health condition, we also offer housing assistance and other support services for HIV+ and at risk individuals.

Prevention Programs

Concept Health programming includes a range of prevention and education modalities, including a unique Youth-Driven Peer Education Program. The UnaVoz Troupe is a bilingual program that empowers youth in Miami-Dade county through creative expression. Members of UnaVoz work together to create a healthy and affirming environment for adolescents ages 14 to 17 in order to prevent underage drinking, substance abuse, and other high-risk behaviors. This three part program uses theatrical performance to educate youth while building self-esteem and resiliency. Intervention services are also available for high-risk teens.

Residential Treatment Center for Women

Concept Health operates residential Substance Abuse and Mental Health programs for women. Services are provided by a multidisciplinary team of Board-Certified Psychiatrists, Medical Doctors, licensed Mental Health Counselors and licensed Social Workers. Services include equine therapy, yoga, smoking cessation, and other wellness initiatives for adult female clients with a range of mental health or substance use issues, including dual diagnosis. Individuals may voluntarily seek treatment, have a referral from a partner agency, or receive treatment through a court-ordered program.

Adult Outpatient Services

Outpatient treatment at Concept Health takes a comprehensive and evidence-based approach to substance abuse and behavioral health. Our experienced providers offer a range of therapeutic modalities to meet a variety of needs. Confidential counseling services include individual, group, and family counseling, as well as experiential therapy, life skills education, relapse prevention, and referrals.
