For more than 50 years, Banyan Community Health has provided innovative support to South Florida residents by combining leading-edge health care with an old-fashioned commitment to community. Guided by our “whole patient care” philosophy, we combine primary health care, substance abuse support, and mental health care in one setting. Over the years, we have forged long-standing, proactive relationships within the communities we serve, allowing us to provide top-quality integrated care to South Floridians, regardless of their ability to pay.
Over the years, the team at Banyan Community Health has been honored to extend the reach of our service beyond our original Miami site. These days, we serve more than 17,000 patients annually from our 12 locations. Thanks to generous support, we continue to grow and are ever more dedicated to serving all members of our community with comprehensive, patient-centered care.
Banyan Community Health: 50 Years of Serving South Florida
Spectrum Programs is Founded
Father Fred Harrison founded the first treatment program of its kind in Broward County. Collaborating with the Federal Bureau of Prisons and the N.A.R.A. (Narcotic Addict Rehabilitation Act of 1966), Spectrum Programs provided welcoming, compassionate support to inmates as they transitioned into society.
Miami Behavioral Health Center is Founded
Miami Behavioral was one of the first sources of comprehensive counseling and treatment for South Florida families in crisis.
Spectrum and MHBC Combine To Form Banyan Community Health
This union established Florida’s first facility to combine substance abuse rehabilitation with mental health treatment.
Banyan Community Health Adds Primary Care
In addition to substance abuse rehabilitation and mental health care, Banyan Community Health also now offers comprehensive primary health care that includes disease control, education, research, and a full range of clinical services.
Banyan Community Health Adds Women’s Health
Banyan Community Health expanded our primary care programs to include comprehensive, personalized women’s health services.
