Mental Health

Outpatient Substance Abuse Services

We offer a flexible program of personalized outpatient alcohol and drug treatment services that lets you balance the responsibilities of work, home, or school with appropriate treatment, peer groups, and access to supportive community services.

Outpatient treatment is for adolescents and adults who do not need the structure of a residential program, who are not in acute withdrawal, and who can benefit from this level of care.

Please get in touch with us for more information on whether or not outpatient alcohol and drug treatment programs are right for you.

As with our more intensive residential substance abuse treatment programs, the first step in deciding the right approach to treatment is Evaluation: Deciding whether or not outpatient treatment is the most appropriate level of care for you. We conduct a thorough psychosocial assessment that integrates standardized tests for mental health and alcohol and drug addiction disorders, psychiatric and physical health evaluations, and comprehensive strengths analyses.

The second step in this process is the development of a Treatment Plan that meets your unique needs and potential. Our programs are client-centered, and we work closely with you to set goals for treatment that will help you address your personal physical, emotional, social, housing, educational, or employment needs.

We incorporate what we learn from assessment into a strengths-based, motivational plan that emphasizes personal responsibility, individual initiative, and group therapy. This gives us the goal-based personal blueprint we need to work with you on sustainable recovery.

Outpatient Psychiatric Services

PSYCHIATRY / A CRITICAL DIMENSION OF SUPPORT

We’re dedicated to providing the highest standard of treatment for behavioral health consumers in our care, and psychiatrists are central to our interdisciplinary, team-based approach to consumer care and crisis stabilization.

Our Outpatient Psychiatric Services unit offers a critical dimension of support for high quality standards for all age groups across all of our behavioral health programs, including for crisis care and emergencies.

Therapists, nurses, and other clinicians in our mental healthcare services and substance abuse addiction treatment programs conduct comprehensive psychosocial and health evaluations for all admissions.

When symptoms of acute emotional or organic pathology are observed, consumers are assigned to one of our psychiatrists for assessment, evaluation of co-occurring medical conditions, drug interactions, physical examination, drug management, review of physician orders, and interpretation of laboratory and other medical studies.

Our Psychiatric Services unit ensures that the critical diagnostics are there for building comprehensive, consumer-centered outpatient substance abuse treatment plans that reflect the complete medical, psychiatric, psychological, and social needs of consumers in our care. We:

  • Stabilize consumers in crisis.
  • Reduce hospital stays through accurate diagnosis of psychiatric and co-occurring addiction disorders that support effective treatment at appropriate levels of care.

Juvenile Addiction Receiving Facility

Juvenile addiction is a serious, potentially lifelong problem that responds well to early intervention. A majority of people suffering from addiction experience the beginnings of this illness during their teens: 95% of people who are dependent on alcohol or other drugs began using before their 20th year.

Our Juvenile Addiction Receiving Facility - JARF - offers a secure, temporary, medically supervised environment for adolescents 12 to 17 years of age who are actively using alcohol or drugs. The JARF is short-term treatment and referral, normally lasting no more than three to five days. Admission can be voluntary or involuntary, under the Florida Marchman Act.

ADMISSION The JARF is a locked facility serving Miami-Dade, Monroe, Broward, and Palm Beach Counties. It operates twenty four hours a day, seven days a week. We accept adolescent admissions on both a voluntary and involuntary basis. Involuntary admissions must meet Marchman Act criteria. The most common sources of admission to the JARF include:

  • Referrals from the Juvenile Assessment Center of Florida’s Department of Juvenile Justice,
  • Court Order by Marchman Act petition of parents or guardians;
  • Physician Certificate ordering involuntary assessment and stabilization, and
  • Voluntary admission by an adolescent under 18 years of age, though with the restriction that discharge to a responsible adult is required.

Doral Elder Program

Our Doral Elder Program offers a safe, supportive, cheerful day center where seniors come together to socialize, dance, learn, play games, eat nutritious meals, engage actively in day-to-day activities, and celebrate the joy of life.

Active lives help us to live longer lives in a healthier state. Our Doral Center is designed to improve quality of life and extend the health, vitality, and well-being of seniors in our care though a variety of social, learning, and therapeutic, health enhancing activities.

For seniors who would otherwise stay at home alone, the social stimulation and recreational activities of our Doral Elderly Program improve physical and cognitive functioning. For caregivers, the program provides needed respite care, giving them time they require for work, renewal, and free time from caregiving responsibilities.

Our services are offered in a protective social setting during daytime hours under the supervision of a well-trained, thoughtful, caring, and highly supportive staff. We extend our services to the community through case managers who work closely with seniors in their homes to help them with access to the care and community resources they require for healthy, dignified, independent living.

Our Doral Elderly Program enables seniors in our community to live independently for longer periods of time. We work to:

  • Improve and maintain communication and social skills.
  • Provide relief to caregivers from the responsibilities of caring for a dependent loved one.
  • Help restore community functioning and wellbeing of seniors with emotional or mental health disorders.
  • Improve the ability of seniors to function in the activities and instruments of daily living by cultivating self-sufficiency and satisfaction in their home and social settings.

Detox Services

Medically assisted detoxification is a critical first stage in addiction treatment. While by itself it does little to change long-term alcohol and drug use, it is a critical and often medically necessary gateway to effective, long term treatment.

Our Detox Services are geared toward preventing and arresting the frequently severe, sometimes life threatening symptoms of addiction withdrawal, while setting the stage for commitment to long-term treatment.

Our goal at Inpatient Detox is to help adults over the age of 18 safely manage the acute physical and psychological symptoms of withdrawal and to pave the way for effective admission into a treatment system.

We also connect Detox patients to the social support resources they need for continuing care. While we are not equipped to serve pregnant women or the severely medically ill, we make referrals to appropriate centers or hospitals where these services are provided.

Our Inpatient Detoxification Team includes a physician, psychiatrist, registered nurse, counselor, and support staff who work closely together to create a caring, comfortable, effective, motivational, medically secure daily context for detoxification and to treat co-morbid medical or psychiatric conditions.
